Lacquer paint contains resin which contributes to its durability and suitability for furniture. Note that because of its composition, the application method is different from oil- and latex-based paints.

Tips for using lacquer paint

  • Paint in an open area with air flow

Because lacquer paint is toxic, it is advised to paint in an area where air flows well. It is also best that you have goggles, gloves and a mask on.

  • Remove any nearby gas pilots

Lacquer paint is highly flammable. Please ensure that there are no open flames and gas pilots near your work space.

  • Prep the surface

Clean off any dirt and debris before preparing the surface with primer paint. The surface should be clean and smooth; if required, sanding should be done to achieve this.

After the primer is up, it is time to apply the lacquer paint and sand the surface till smooth. Subsequently, more layers of paint can be applied and the last clear coat can be added.
