Paint Sealers
A paint sealer is a specialised type of primer that provides good adhesion between the underlying wall and the new paint or primer. In comparison to a regular primer, sealers are able to recondition surfaces that may otherwise not be suitable for painting.
Sealer paints are most commonly used in these scenarios:
- New or old homes
New walls contain high levels of alkali. Without a strong alkali-resistant sealant, the top paint coat will deteriorate, resulting in ugly and uneven patches.
- Moist or porous surfaces
Walls in damp areas such as the bathroom are prone to staining and peeling. A water-based interior wall sealer protects your new paint from moisture attacks and ensures that it lasts much longer.
On porous surfaces, a sealer provides a layer of barrier for the new paint to adhere to. This speeds up the drying process and helps you to save costs. To learn more about the importance of sealers, check out our article on how existing wall conditions affect painting.
